Building upon the success of the AAS studies in Fashion Design, courses in the BFA program advance in complexity as students hone their expertise in the sportswear concentration. Through applied experiential learning and the creative application and development of critical problem-solving challenges, students become adept fashion designers. Students attain a greater understanding of the fashion design process, further perfect their conceptual/technical skills, and advance in the development of a personal design aesthetic and their adaptive abilities. This program prepares graduates for success in sportswear careers, related design fields, and other careers not yet imagined. Registering for this concentration is based on availability. - Liberal Arts electives: 6 credits. Select Liberal Arts courses from the following subject areas: AB (Arabic), CH (Chinese), EN (English), FI (Film & Media) - any FI course other than FI 205, 261, 361, 461, 362, and 462, FR (French), HA (History of Art), HE (Health Education) 201, 301, IT (Italian), JA (Japanese), MU (Music), HI (History), MA (Math), MC (Modern Languages & Cultures), PE (Physical Education & Dance) 215, 216, 217, PL (Philosophy), PO (Portuguese), SC (Science), SP (Spanish), and SS (Social Science).
- History of Art: 6 credits. CHOICE of one (1) HA course that meets General Education Other World Civilizations requirement (G9) and one (1) additional HA course. See the full list of Art/Design History courses under HA: History of Art and Civilization.

Foreign Language: 6 credits. Two semesters of the same foreign language, one of which must meet General Education Foreign Language requirement (G8).

Students who successfully complete the Fashion Design BFA program will be able to:
- Create global design products utilizing their advanced knowledge of new technology and traditional craft.
- Identify problems, anticipate challenges, and envision solutions in existing fashion systems.
- Understand and incorporate sustainability decisions into their design aesthetics and creativity.
- Collaborate across disciplines as a team leader, effective team member, and innovative design thinker.
- Function independently with a forward-looking ability to promote their inventive personal design vision through the creative work they present.
