SS 314 — Economics of Art and Culture

This course reviews economic theory and its application to the arts and culture sectors. Students explore topics related to supply and demand analysis, market structure in the cultural sector, consumer behavior, the role of the economic agents in the art industry, and public support for the arts. The course examines the economic concept of the value and its application in arts, including how art trades in the market, whether art is a good investment or not, how art is financed, and what role art plays in the local community and economy. Prerequisite(s): SS 141 and SS 242.
