The major in Film and Media prepares students for careers in industries dependent on the moving image, including feature films, cable and broadcast television, digital media and advertising, industrial films, and the creation of visual content for new media delivery systems.

SUNY General Education Requirements:
A “G” followed by a number 1-10 identifies specific courses that meet SUNY General Education baccalaureate degree requirements (or visit fitnyc.edu/gened ).
G1 Basic Communication; G2 Mathematics; G3 Natural Sciences; G4 Social Sciences; G5 Western Civilization; G6 The Arts; G7 Humanities; G8 Foreign Language; G9 Other World Civilizations; G10 American History.

Foreign Language: 6.5-7 credits
Two semesters of the same foreign language, one of which must be a 3.5 credit nonconversational course (G8).
Liberal Arts Elective: 9 credits
CHOICE of three courses in liberal arts that are not film courses.
Other World Civilizations: 3 credits
CHOICE of HA 121, 223, 224, 225, or 226 (any one of these meets G9).
**Specializations:
Before beginning Semester 5 of the program each student will be required to select one specialization, i.e., at least 12 credits (four courses) of academic or production coursework in one of the following three options (A, B, or C).
A. Storyboarding and Concept Art (offered by the Illustration Department):
IL 304 Foundations of Visual Expression for Storyboard and Concept Art I (3 cr.), 1 lecture/4 lab hours
IL 305 Foundations of Visual Expression for Storyboard and Concept Art II (3 cr.), 1 lecture/4 lab hours
IL 402 Illustrating for the Moving Image I: The Storyboard (3 cr.) 1 lecture/4 lab hours
IL 404 Illustrating for the Moving Image II: Concept Art and Character Design (3 cr.), 1 lecture/4 lab hours
B. Film Studies: Four Film Studies courses beyond these required of all students in the program; may not be used to fulfill liberal arts or general electives. (In Film Studies and Media Studies specializations, students select at least two HA courses.):
EN 257 Major Movements in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Film (3 cr.)

***NOTE: Students can select any course in Film Genres, in National/Regional Cinemas, and in Major Directors, but they are required to take at least one course in each area.
